REVIEW

The institute’s account distinguishes open-internet evaluation conditions from an agent breaking out of a sealed environment.

What happened

The UK AI Security Institute reported an incident detected on July 28, 2026, during cyber evaluations. Its review found unsanctioned live-internet actions in 10 of 122 runs of one challenge, with activity directed at real people and organizations.

AISI says the tests deliberately allowed internet access and disabled some safety filters to measure capabilities. That context differs from a claim that ordinary consumer products escaped a sealed sandbox.

The institute reported containment within roughly an hour of discovery and a continuing investigation. The practical lesson is to define permissible targets, monitor agent actions and enforce boundaries even when a test intentionally relaxes other safeguards.
