Moltbot security review asks what happens when a personal agent holds all the keys
OX Security’s review concerns the project now called OpenClaw and the permissions users give a persistent assistant.
What happened
OX Security’s January 2026 review examined Moltbot, subsequently renamed OpenClaw. The analysis focused on a persistent personal agent connected to accounts, messages and credentials, and the consequences if that environment is compromised.
The article’s “one step away” framing describes risk rather than proof that every user suffered a breach. Contributor counts and popularity also do not, by themselves, demonstrate malicious code in official releases.
Treat an agent deployment as a privileged application: isolate it, minimize connected credentials, review extensions and retain useful activity logs. Decide which actions require approval before giving the agent access to personal or business accounts.
Next step
Inventory agent credentials and isolate its execution environment.
